Medical Methods: The Proven Tier
These do not guess — they measure the sex chromosomes or the developing organs directly.
- NIPT (cell-free DNA) — a blood draw from ~10 weeks screening for chromosome material; reports sex with >99% reliability where local law allows disclosure.
- Anatomy scan — the 18–20 week ultrasound shows genitalia directly; 95–99% accurate when the baby is positioned cooperatively.
- CVS & amniocentesis — diagnostic tests sampling placental tissue or amniotic fluid; essentially certain, but done for medical reasons, never just for sex, because of a small procedure risk.
Ultrasound "Early Methods": The Grey Zone
Nub theory reads a real structure (the genital tubercle) and does correlate loosely with development, which is why it outranks the rest. Ramzi theory and skull theory read things not actually tied to sex, so they drift to chance.

Why the Fun Methods Top Out at 50%
A baby’s sex is fixed at fertilisation by the sperm’s X or Y chromosome. Methods based on birth year, cravings, belly shape or urine fizz do not touch that chromosome in any way, so their predictions are statistically independent of the outcome — the definition of a 50-50 guess.
